Step One
Divide modeling clay in to pieces just large enough to fit comfortably in your students’ hands.

Step Two
Instruct students to roll the modeling clay between their hands in a circular motion to create a sphere.

Step Three
Instruct students to roll the modeling clay back and forth between their hands to create a coil.

Step Four
Instruct students to form a “duck bill” with their fingers and thumb and use it to flatten the modeling clay, creating a slab.

Step Five
Using these three techniques, have students create the shapes and designs listed on the attached worksheets.
