Multimedia Animal

Combine abstract painting and collage techniques to create stunning nature scenes.

Objective: Students get creative with color when they create abstract animals in the wild. This multimedia project lets students experiment with several different materials and techniques.

Step 1

Take a piece of mixed media paper and cover your paper with dots of Prang® Washable Ready-to-Use Tempera Paints in the colors you would like your animal to be. Place the Creativity Street® Paint Scrapers, squeegee, or cardboard piece at the top of the paper and slowly pull across the paper to spread the paint. Let the paint dry.

Take a piece of mixed media paper and color your paper with dots of Prang® Watercolor Pencils in the colors you would like your animal to be. Take a paint brush and drop dots of water onto the dots of colors drawn on the paper. Place the Creativity Street® Paint Scrapers, squeegee, or cardboard piece at the top of the paper and slowly pull across the paper to spread the paint. Let the paint dry.

Step 2

Cut out the desired animal using the provided silhouette template and trace with a pencil. Cut the animal out with some scissors.

Step 3

Using construction paper colors of your choice, build the environment it lives in around it. Glue the animal and the environment pieces to the construction paper of your choice.
