Step One

Start with your paper in a portrait orientation. Fold the paper in half by bringing the bottom edge of the paper up to meet the top edge. Create a horizontal crease.

Step Two

Open the folded paper. Fold the bottom end of the paper in to meet the middle crease, creating another horizontal crease. The paper will now be divided into three parts: two small sections at the bottom and one large section at the top. These creases/sections will act as a guide as you create the composition of your drawing.

Step Three

Using a permanent marker, draw the centers of three sunflowers in the top/largest section of the paper.

Step Four

To draw evenly spaced petals, start by drawing short lines in each of the cardinal directions, radiating out from the center of the flower. Add lines halfway between the first lines, then another set halfway between those. These lines create the edges of your petals. Draw curved lines at the end of each line to connect them, creating the ends of the petals.

Step Five

Draw the vase. Start with a curved line just above the lowest crease. This forms the opening of the vase. Add curved lines to create the sides and bottom.

Step Six

Add straight lines on either side of the vase, along the lowest crease, creating a table.

Step Seven

Draw stems connecting the sunflower blossoms to the vase. Add leaves as desired.

Step Eight

Use the Payons to add color. Color the inside edges of the flowers, stems, and leaves.

Step Nine

For the vase and background, use the Payons to draw repeating patterns. On the table, draw straight lines to mimic wood grain.

Step Ten

Using a brush and water, spread the color from the Payons to fill in each shape, blending where desired. This will create the finished artwork.
