Step 1
Clean and dry your pumpkins and bring to room temperature. If your pumpkin is very textured, rubbing a fine sandpaper on the surface of the pumpkin will help the paint adhere to the surface. The smoother the surface the more evenly the paint spreads and lays down on the pumpkin.
Step 2
Gather your painting supplies, pumpkins, a sturdy square of cardboard and a sturdy cup (optional). Place the square of cardboard on top of the cup to make a stand for the pumpkin so you can spin it without smearing your wet paint.
Step 3
Paint the first layer of your design onto the pumpkin and allow it to dry. Suggestions include eyeballs, spiders, bats, the moon, a haunted house, a witch, or anything scary or spooky for Halloween.
Step 4
Apply a second coat of paint, and let it dry.
Step 5
Use a small paintbrush to outline your design.
Step 6
Paint any additional details to your design and allow it to dry completely.
Step 7
To extend the life of your creation, we suggest you use a clear acrylic spray to protect your painted pumpkin from fading, bleeding or smudging. Because this is washable paint, the paint may run if the pumpkin is exposed to inclement weather.
